American, 2000. Illuminated document recognizing the contributions of a youngster to the activities of the "Middle Kingdom." Unlike many of the documents hosted here, this document is based on Carolingian book art. The illumination and writing styles used around the year 800 CE to decorate books have here been modified into the pattern used by illuminated documents. Signature block for the "King and Queen of the Midrealm" is on top of the document; royal signatures in period documents frequently appeared in the top margin. The center placement of the primary illumination (the goldvine "V") is based on a German document of the 15th c.
